A new study has found learning a language and visiting museums as an adult can delay the onset of dementia by five years.

Professor MICHAEL WOODWARD is the Head of Dementia Research at Austin Health.

"It stimulates the brain, and anything that stimulates the brain increases brain cells, synapses, and can therefore protect us from the ravages of Alzheimer's. So it doesn't necessarily stop the changes that would eventually lead to Alzheimer's, but it gives us a better barrier, a bit of better better protection."
