The National vaccination insights project, a survey of over 2000 parents of children under five years of age has found a shift in parents' confidence in vaccines.
It's found a decision to not prioritize vaccinations almost doubled last year.
While there's been a rise in the number of parents not anticipating feeling guilty if an unvaccinated child became ill with influenza, a quarter of respondents were also not intending to vaccinate their child next influenza season, and a fifth believed the vaccine was not effective. The authors say these findings highlight an urgent need to refocus influenza communication strategies.
Influenza remains a leading cause of hospitalization in children under five years of age.
