Regional Victorians are outperforming Melburnians when it comes to knowing the signs of stroke.

The new data comes from the stroke Foundation's national awareness survey, which tests Australians knowledge of the signs and risks of stroke.
The 2025 survey data revealed 63% of regional Victorians know slurred speech is a sign of stroke, compared to just 50% of Melbourne's 53% of regional Victorians were aware of facial droop, compared to 43% of Melbournes and 20% compared to 16% for inability to lift both arms.
Stroke Foundation CEO, Dr Lisa Murphy, says it's encouraging news for regional Australia, where people are 17% more likely to have a stroke than those living in metropolitan areas.
